She was initially inspired by shadows reflected on grass. Months later she devised a process that didn't make the subject onto canvas in a flat image. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject in which the painting transforms into the medium for it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is live or perishable objects, such as people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting is very ephemeral. Only the photographs of her work survive. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved through the combination of two methods of photographing and painting. This creates an unflattened and two-dimensional image. Meade often incorporates models painted within the surrounding space. It allows them to be part of the world the artist has constructed. Thus, the boundary between painting and photography is removed.
